Angie Haines, secretary to Lawrence Grove and Tim Malby is rowing 31 miles to raise funds for her local hospice. After a friend died of cancer, Angie decided to row the Boston Marathon (Lincolnshire, England not America!) in her memory with her friend's daughter, Tracy, and raise funds for The Shakespeare Hospice in Stratford upon Avon.
The trio rowed the Marathon back in 1977 in a pair, with Tracy coxing. Turning 50 this year, Angie needed a goal for all her training.
"We're doing the event this time in a double scull. Not something I'm very familiar with. It's been hard work training six days a week but fun so far ...and we've managed to stay dry!"
A Rowathon is being organised at Stratford Leisure Centre on 14th August when there will be 8 rowing machines lined up for anyone to try their hand at rowing one mile against the clock for a £1 donation .....or more.
